Recycling used coffee capsules is a real problem. According to the New York Times, Nespresso sold 27 billion coffee capsules between 1986, when it introduced the first single-serve coffee machine, and 2012, but only a tiny percentage of this volume has been recycled.
Coffee capsules are technically 100% recyclable. But are they being recycled? You might think you’re “doing the right thing” by placing your plastic or aluminum capsules into your recycling bin – because in most cases the box says you can, but they’re ultimately ending up in landfill anyway.
At Ode Goods sustainability is a key component of everything we do. This is why we create jewelery that is beautiful and utilize materials that are otherwise disposed; aluminum single-serve coffee capsules included.
